We’ve worked with a number of MVE Series cryopreservation tanks over the past few years and thus far we are fans. These units are durable, relatively easy to use, and can provide storage for either vapor or liquid phase. In addition to that, the stainless-steel exteriors are easy to keep clean and more resistant to dings and scratches that most powder-coat painted models like the Thermo Locator series.
The MVE XLC 511 can hold up to 10,400 vials (2mL) in a total of 11 racks, or up to 224 blood bags. It can hold either square or pie racks and the large neck opening makes accessing the chamber for loading or removal a cinch. You can find or load your samples quickly, meaning less nitrogen evaporation, less sample exposure, and quick temperature recovery.
Another feature we like is the large lid handle: unlike some other cryotanks with recessed lid handles or plastic lids, the fixed metal handle on the MVE XLC 511 is sturdy and easy to grip even when wearing heavy protective cyrogenic gloves.
