Mettler Toledo has been the go-to brand name for laboratory balances for many years. Normally we’re not strict “brand name” type people, but there’s a good reason that Mettler is such a popular choice for weighing solutions.
The Mettler Toledo PG series balances were phased out of production in the early 2000s but are still sought after because they are easy to operate and durable. The Mettler PG5002S is no exception. It features Mettler’s Fully Automatic Calibration Technology (FACT), which is a fully automatic motorized calibration with internal weight. Built-in functions include piece counting, percent weighing, formula weighing and dynamic weight determination, among others, so the Mettler PG5002S has a wide range of operations beyond simple weighing.
Recently there’s been an influx of basic toploading balances selling on Amazon and Ebay for rock bottom prices. For the most part these are manufactured in China and are from new, not-well-established or even previously unheard-of manufacturers.
