As the largest supplier of used and refurbished biosafety cabinets in New England (and maybe in the entire US) we have the opportunity to work with a huge variety of different models. Over the years we’ve developed some favorites and preferences toward certain manufacturers, and Labconco is near the top of our list of favorites.

The Labconco Purifer Logic series biosafety cabinets are a nice improvement on the Delta series models. The design is similar but there are some improvements and updates worth noting. The filter monitoring system, for example: an LCD screen inside of the cabinet chamber displays filter life and shows detailed information about operational performance as well as warning users when hazardous conditions or a malfunction is detected. A status line provides feedback on the system, including whether the system is “OK” or if the “sash is too high” while a continuous bar graph display provides information on the life of the HEPA filter and when it will need to be changed.

Another nice feature is the electronically commutated motor. This provide more precisely controlled airflow with no need for additional sensors or adjustments. The ECM can deliver a consistent volume of air even as the load on the HEPA filter changes, which not only provides a longer filter life but is also more energy efficient.

The one flaw we’ve noticed with these units is the somewhat weak lower floor. Labconco clearly states that these units shouldn’t be lifted from the front with a forklift, but because most freight carriers, truck drivers, or other logistics personnel don’t have time to read the full manual these units do often get picked up in a manner that causes the floor underneath the work surface to bend or bow significantly. This can impact airflow and even cause a biosafety cabinet to not pass certification. We’ve developed a couple of methods for correcting this damage, but it should be noted that proper handling is important when shipping or otherwise moving these units.

So if you’re looking for a Labconco Logic series biosafety cabinet please give us a call or email today. Our technicians test each bio safety cabinet to insure that the controls and blower motor work properly. Unless otherwise specified all bio safety cabinets come with new HEPA filters installed by our technicians at our facility prior to shipment. Our testing procedure includes all the elements of a bio safety cabinet certification in order to insure that the unit will pass certification once it is at your site. Thanks!
