We love these shakers – they’re big, durable, easy to use, and great for a wide variety of applications. We especially like the model 15000-1 VWR orbital shaker because it’s a good unit for brewery labs – and we always love to provide discounted pricing in exchange for beer!
In all seriousness, this is a terrific option with a huge volume capacity and 150lb weight capacity. In addition to brewery applications such as agitating wort, this shaker can be used for solubility studies, extraction procedures and cell cultures.
We have these VWR shakers set up with a 24” x 36” universal platform with seventy 250mL flask holders. (We may be able to provide different flask holders – call or email us for availability). The shaking orbit is 25mm while the speed can be set anywhere from 15 to 500rpm.
We’re also very impressed with the Accu-Drive system. VWR literature claims that this system helps the shaker maintain speeds to within 1% of the setpoint even when the weight of the load changes. We thought this might be VWR talking a big game, but when we experimented with some 10kg weights and a tachometer the shaker was able to maintain the setpoint rpm even as weight was added to the platform mid-run.
Another nice feature is the ability to run in a wide range of ambient environments, including temperature ranges from -10°C to +60°C, and in up to 20% CO2 concentrations, so this shaker can run in cold rooms or large-chambered cell culture incubators.
