For the past couple of years we’ve been getting our hands on a lot of balance enclosures, mostly from Labconco and Flow Sciences. Why? Because these are handy little units that small labs can use to provide user protection in place of more traditional (and expensive) chemical fume hoods.
Now don’t get us wrong: chemical fume hoods are great products and remain one of our bread and butter categories. And for some applications there’s no adequate substitute for a good old fashioned Mott fume hood. But for a lot of simple weighing applications a balance enclosure can save you a ton of space, time, and money.
For example, take the Labconco XPert Balance Enclosure paired with a Filtermate exhauster. These units can be placed directly onto a benchtop and offers 23” of interior depth that can easily fit most microbalances and analytical balances. Depending on the model and the needs of your application the Filtermate can accept a HEPA filter, carbon-based filter, or combination of the two to remove hazardous powders, particulates or vapors before returning the filtered air to the lab.
Flow Sciences balance enclosures are similar and designed for potent powder weighing applications. The ETA series feature top mounted motors and dual HEPA filtration systems and provide balance stability for balances with readability to seven decimal places. The HEPA filters are Bag-In/Bag-Out for easy replacement.
