So when the opportunity came along to get our hands on the FastPrep 96 we immediately said, “Yup.” Similar to the 24, the 96 is a high-speed homogenizer designed to biological samples and lyses thoroughly and quickly any tissues and cells, thus allowing for easy and reproducible isolation of stable RNA, active proteins and full-length genomic DNA. But with a sample volume capacity of up to 250mL (or about 500g) the potential throughput of the 96 is significantly higher than previous models we’ve seen from MP Biomedicals.
The FastPrep 96 is also significantly larger than the 24, with a footprint of about 17.5” by 26”. Adapters are available to accepts tubes ranging in size from 0.5mL up to 250mL. The processing speed is 1800 oscillations/minute with a 1.5” stroke and true linear motion eliminates the need to re-orient the plates mid-cycle. Potential research areas include soil and environmental science; genomics; proteomics; metagenomics; metabolomics; food sciences; forensics; plant pathology; communicable disease; cancer; agricultural.
