We’ve written a lot about biosafety cabinets already on the blog and will continue to do so since we are one of the largest (if not the largest) supplier of used and refurbished biosafety cabinets. We’ve even written about Nuaire BSCs before and how these products deserve more praise than they are often given. So here we go: praises of the Nuaire NU-629-600 biosafety cabinet.
Because it is mounted on a hydraulic stand the Nuaire NU-629-600 is often categorized as an animal transfer cabinet or cage changing station, but it actually is a standard Class II, Type A2 biosafety cabinet and can be used in any environment to provide protection to personnel, product, and the lab environment. The hydraulic stand is a nice feature for any lab to have, particularly since the lift has a narrow profile and that doesn’t add much to the overall width of the cabinet (which is perhaps the only drawback of the hydraulic stands from the Baker company). This stand allows you to adjust the work surface height from about 24” all the way to 40”, thus accommodating the ergonomic needs of a wide range of multiple users in your lab.
Another nice feature is the energy efficient blower motor. It’s a DC style ECM motor with efficiency savings of over 50% compared to older motor designs. This not only means greener, more Earth-friendly energy consumption patterns for your lab, but also a significant increase in filter load capacity – in other words, longer filter life. With the cost of new HEPA filters and installation currently running at around $1,000 this translates to serious cost savings over the life of the BSC.
