We like to think of the MP FastPrep homogenizer as a robust update of the Savant FastPrep FP120. Both models are designed for efficient disruption of cell membranes through multidirectional pulverization, and both allow users to homogenize difficult to lyse sample quickly and thoroughly in a relatively short time.
The MP FastPrep offers some significant advantages, however, beginning with a capacity that is twice as large. Additionally, interchangeable sample holders are available for the MP FastPrep for a variety of sample sizes, including 24 x 2mL, 48 x 2mL, 24 x 4.5mL, 6 x 15mL, 12 x 15mL, and 2 x 50mL. The memory feature allows you to save up to 5 pre-set speed and time parameters. This allows for easily reproducible results when isolating stable RNA, active proteins and full-length genomic DNA, or extracting nucleic acids, proteins, metabolites and other small molecules from almost any sample. Efficiently lyse bone, brain, tumor samples, yeast, fungi, spores, feces, soil, sediment, leaves, roots, seeds, among other difficult to lyse samples.
The design of the MP FastPrep 24 is simple yet attractive, with a narrow footprint and easy to operate lid for loading samples. An emergency stop button on the front of the unit is a nice fail safe measure should the unit be loaded out of balance or experience any other faults during a run.
The only drawback of the MP FastPrep 24 to the Savant FastPrep models is price: the MP FastPrep 24 typically lists at close to triple the price of the older Savant models. But for many users the added functionalities plus other features of the MP FastPrep are worth this significant price difference.
